Located in the south of the state of Minas Gerais, close to the mountains of Serra da Mantiqueira, the city of São João Del Rei was founded in 1704 and played an important role in the state's history during the gold cycle.
With great infrastructure for tourists and natural landscapes that fill the eyes, the city of Tiradentes is pointed out by many as undoubtedly one of the most charming and preserved historic mining towns.
It houses one of the four World Heritage Sites declared by UNESCO.
It was an important city at the time of colonial Brazil due to the large amount of gold and other precious stones found in the region. In this way, all wealth made the city an important economic, political and cultural center.
Surprisingly, the destination is among the most visited in Minas Gerais and carries the most important collection of architecture and art from the colonial period in Brazil. Such importance brought the title of the first Brazilian city to be declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The city was the first capital of the state and the richest during the gold cycle, losing space in the future to Ouro Preto. With more than 300 years old, it mainly concentrates a large part of the historical and cultural heritage of Minas Gerais.
It is a mix of contemporary art museum and botanical garden. A space dedicated to the preservation of art and also of natural species from all over the world.
